hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I will be working sound for a show in D.C. for the next two weeks called "4.48 Psychosis" by Sarah Kane. This play is an amazing work of theatre, directed by my sister (the famous Cecilia Cackley) and performed by members of Wit's End Productions...her fancy name for the group of actors she pulled together from the college of William & Mary. the play is being performed as part of the inagural Capital Fringe Festival (which if you are interested in theatre, is a pretty big deal). here's the press release for the show:

once again the Cappies have come and gone, and once again W-L has crashed and burned...

BUT THAT'S OK! b/c Yorktown didn't do much better! granted they had more nominations than us, but they still didn't win any awards. that's ok yorktown, we still love you all...

Wakefield has proven that they will ALWAYS dance better than us white people...

AND H-B!! FUCKING A!! that is incredible, you guys are/were/will always be amazing...and when julia is directing on b'way i can say i knew her way back in elem. school...maddy-super congrats, i had no idea when i knew you your frosh year you would be this huge...and to the cast overall--no one deserved it more than you. excellent job.

and who knows! maybe next year W-L will get a clue and not do RANDOM ASS MUSICALS that no one has heard of/understands... :oD

wellll, things continue to drag on, with only the slightest hint of reprieve...June 22. how can a day that's less than a month away seem to be as far off as it was at the beginning of this year? i am puzzled.

at any rate, IB tests are over, hopefully i didn't fail any. i don't feel like i did, and that's generally a good sign.

Prom #1 is over (W-L prom) and passed by without too much incident. just got insanely lost on the way to the dance, but who bothers w/ the details? it was still fun.

Prom #2 is coming up (YHS) and i shouldn't say this but i'm possibly looking forward to this one MORE than ours...not quite sure why, but just the fact that it'll be nice not being around the same people i see every day. W-L kicks ass, but it has been a while since i hung out w/ people who DON'T go to my school.

other than that, i'm certainly booked for the rest of this month. movies, shows, birthdays, parties, concerts, etc... and finally school is over, so i actually have the time to do it all. no more trying to keep up with homework in between hanging out w/ friends, which is a big relief.

other news:
-i'm a valedictorian, one of 46
-i could graduate w/ the bilingual IB diploma. woot.

can't really think of anything else right now. so i will end here.

mood: relaxed
well, here's the status:

English: half done (paper 1-over, paper 2-tomorrow morning, 8:30)

Environmental Systems: ALL OVER (thank god)

20th Century World Topics: still to come (wed-papers 1 and 2, thurs-paper 3)

Fluent Speaker Spanish A2: still to come (mon-22nd, tues-23rd)

then i'm DONE w/ school. only...16 more days, 12 school days, 5 days of testing...

colleges...

mood: listless
alright, haven't updated in a while...here's what's up, mostly:

Colleges:

UNC-Chapel Hill: ACCEPTED, got a tiny loan, didn't get any scholarships
University of Notre Dame: ACCEPTED, haven't heard about money yet
College of William & Mary: ACCEPTED, got a small loan, didn't get any scholarships
University of Virginia: ACCEPTED, haven't heard about money
James Madison University: ACCEPTED, got a bunch of loans, no scholarships

so that's all for now. i'm having a hell of a time deciding where to go...they're all really good schools...and i don't really want it to be all about money. ugh.

Band Trip 2006:

...was pretty cool. we went down to Myrtle Beach and won Grand Championship for the 4th year in a row, aka every year i've been in the band. woot

now, i can't wait til Spring Break/3rd quarter is over. but after that i have IB exams, which i'm not really freaking out about, but which i'm slightly anxious over. Topics should be ok, and English should be fine, E-sys is cool, BUT SPANISH is gonna be crazy. i have no idea how to prepare, i think i'm just gonna have to fail...oh well.

that's about it for now, except W-L finally has a semi-official Ultimate Frisbee Team!! "GENERAL THREAT" woot! and we're competing in WAFC tournaments (washington area frisbee club), we kicked ass two weeks ago, beating both Thomas Jefferson HS and Blair HS. yeeaah...but H-B is still out of the question. too good...hopefully soon though.

aiight, hope everyone else is good. let me know how you guys are doing if you read this!

“You wonder how these things begin.
Well, this begins with a glen.
It begins with a season, which for want of a better word we might as well call September.
It begins with a forest, where the woodchucks woo
and leaves wax green and vines entwine like lovers.
Try to see it.
Not with your eyes for they are wise, but see it with your ears.
The cool green breathing of the leaves
and hear it with the inside of your hand,
the soundless sound of shadows flicking light.
Celebrate sensation!
Recall that secret place.
You’ve been there, you remember.
That special place, where once, just once in your crowded sunlit lifetime,
you hid away in shadows from the tyranny in time.
That spot besides the clover where someone’s hand held your hand,
and love was sweeter than the berries or the honey or the stinging taste of mint.
It is September, before a rainfall.
A perfect time to be in love.”

“I have lived in the darkness for so long, I am waiting for the light to shine.
Far beyond horizons I have seen,
beyond the things I’ve been,
beyond the dreams I’ve dreamed,
are the things I’ve done, in fact each and every one,
are the way that I was taught to run.
I am waiting for the light to shine, I am waiting for the light to shine.
I have lived in the darkness for so long, I am waiting for the light to shine.”

"...my favorite color scheme..."
09:33pm 20/02/2006

mood: busy
Said Red Molly to James "That's a fine motorbike
A girl could feel special on any such like."
Said James to Red Molly, "Well my hat's off to you
It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952
And I've seen you at the corners and cafes it seems
Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme."
And he pulled her on behind
And down to Box Hill they did ride

Said James to Red Molly, "Here's a ring for your right hand
But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man
I've fought with the law since I was seventeen
I robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine
Now I'm 21 years, I might make 22
And I don't mind dying, but for the love of you
And if fate should break my stride
Then I'll give you my Vincent to ride."

"Come down, come down, Red Molly", called Sergeant McRae
"For they've taken young James Adie for armed robbery
Shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside
Oh, come down, Red Molly to his dying bedside."
When she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left
He was running out of road, he was running out of breath
But he smiled to see her cry
And said "I'll give you my Vincent to ride"

Says James, "in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a 52 Vincent and a red headed girl
Now Nortons and Indians and Greeveses won't do
They don't have a soul like a Vincent 52."
He reached for her hand and he slipped her the keys
He said "I've got no further use for these
I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome
Swooping down from heaven to carry me home"
And he gave her one last kiss and died
And he gave her his Vincent to ride...

"and losing my mind..."
12:10am 10/01/2006

mood: mellow
well, things have settled down again, after being slightly tense for a while. nothing major, all high school sh*t, but still, it seemed serious while it was happening. this weekend was relaxing and stressful at once, if that's possible. it seemed like i had moments of calmness interspersed with several periods of mind-numbing panic...very strange...but here's a short summary:

Friday: after school was one of those panic/stress times, with the most intense frisbee game we've played in a while. several injuries, one relatively serious (involving blood, but thank god Alex is a beast), overall it was a really good game...
coincidentally, the evening was one of most relaxing times of the weekend, just hanging out at david's, building a fire as usual, with luke amazing us again with his cooking skills (grilled chicken, but DAMN, it was good), then watching "Ocean's 11" when it got too cold to play drums anymore...good times...

Saturday: had to get up at freaking 7 am, in order to be at Oakton HS for District Band auditions...that was slightly stressful, but i made myself stay calm, and it helped...was there til around noon, then met Sarah at the library to work on our topics seminar. WE HAVE NO INFO IN OUR BOOKS! or at least nothing that appears relevant...so yeah, need to talk to Root about that...relaxed for the rest of the evening, my mom made French crepes for desert (which are like thin, sugary pancackes, REALLY GOOD!!) yum...

Sunday: up at 7 again for church, then at work from 10-12. then i saw WICKED! @ the Kennedy Center w/ family...it was freakin' amazing, shows like that almost make me wanna give up acting and focus purely on tech, the sets and lighting were incredible...i couldn't believe it...anyway, when i got home, i realized i had done literally no homework yet, and i was screwed...so yeah, up until 3 am sunday night...fun...

TODAY/(yesterday)/monday: realatively good day, Topics essay was crazy stressful, but i managed to bullshit a five page paper, which should get me a fairly average grade, woot for the Root. then i found out i moved down two chairs in Band, b/c of the District auditions (scoring and such), but it was ok, because i didn't mind the two people who beat me, they deserved it, and i'm still sitting ahead of the two freshman, which was the only thing i wouldn't have liked too much...Cast meeting for "Ernest" went pretty well, Chipotle w/ Josie and Bridgit was fun! and sooo gooood...then home for a relaxing evening of surfing the web and playing guitar...

wow ashley, i think that rivals the length of some of YOUR posts! anyway, looking forward to this week for some reason, nice weather for the most part and nothing too crazy going on...just have to write that f*cking extended essay for me to be entirely stress free for a while...

links...
08:16pm 27/12/2005
so, in my boredom/avoidance of college apps i have discovered several online flash/quicktime/whatever movies that i find hilarious...enjoy!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/happyfeet/

-> ok, so it won't beat "Finding Nemo" but it looks pretty funny, and the fact that Hugh Jackman and Robin Williams will be doing voices automatically makes it worthwhile.

http://www.prangstgrup.com/index_1000.html

-> the above link is a website for what is (as far as i can tell) a college comedy group based out of Colombia University. my favorite videos are the "Library Musical" (guess why?), "Lecture Musical" and "Subway Lectures". the rest are only ok...some of them are pretty wierd...and my sister knows/went to school with the guy in the musical ones.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5409947201428088801

-> this is just drop dead hilarious...thank you becky for finding it.

i'm currently listening to "The Battle of Jericho" which is this insane choral piece that Virginia Senior Honors Choir sang this year (yeeea, Ryan and Thomas, you guys kick ass). anyway, it is blowing my mind right now, just playing on repeat in iTunes...wow

anyway! besides freakin' awesome music, I'M READY FOR WINTER BREAK! mostly because i want christmas to come, but also because...

1)it will give me time to do homework
2)it will give me time to see movies i've been meaning to see (Narnia, anyone?)
3)it will give me time to hang out with old friends, and new ones.
4)it will give me time to RELAX!
5)it will give me time to write my f*cking extended essay...
6)it will give me time to practice trumpet and guitar

by the way, nobody here cares, but we're playing "Northwoods" again in band!! F*CK YES!!! amazing...

so yes, i have lots planned for my very short break, but that's ok, it will all work out somehow.

mood: blah
and it has been a very long time...

get the superficial things out of the way first:
1) Homecoming- i actually enjoyed myself this year, although i heard that some people didn't. i chose to go w/o a date, which worked out a lot better than i thought it would...i got to dance with a lot of people who maybe i wouldn't have if i had been "with" someone, and there was generally a lot less pressure.
2) Marching Band- still kinda sucks, cause we're not taking it seriously enough, and working out the problems...we're going to fail at States (just like YHS) and it's going to be our own fault...
3) school/college....argh....

on the bright side, i bought an i-pod fairly recently! 20 GB, w/o the color screen, so i didn't pay an insane amount for it...and i've already got about half of it filled up! but this is music i've amassed over the past 5 years (when i really starting listening to music) so hopefully the 20 GB will last a little longer...

what i want right now:
1) an a cappella version of the song "Carry On Wayward Son"
2) a 10 hour straight period of time where i can just knock off my E.E. (why the f*** haven't i done it yet? i don't know...)
3) a good grade in Spanish...

well, that was slightly melancholy, slightly cheerful, so i don't know what mood that'd be. i guess i'll have to go with... -->

well, got backWednesday night from a four day band camp @ JMU, here's a list of good/bad...

GOOD:

interesting music (Incredibles theme....and i had a frickin' solo!)

cool drills (yes, we're band geeks...live with it)

awesome people (ryan, david, jill, josie, rachel, brigdit, and colin)

good food (that, and music, would be the only reasons i would go to JMU)

madison project, LIVE PERFORMANCE (a capella kicks ass...)

david, ryan and i furthering the djembe movement (if you know what this means...then you know what it means)

BAD:

stupid music (secret agent man???)

absolutely NO free time (david, ryan and i played frisbee once and that was cause we snuck off to do it)

lame karioke night (ended up just hanging out outside w/ jill and rachel, watching david try to pick up sophmores...)

sucky dorms

some idiotic leadership guy who treated us like we were 8 years old

some people had no idea how to march, and we couldn't stop and help them, they just told us "worry about yourself" (wtf??)

we didn't even get to perform everything we learned at the end of the camp (it rained for about 5 minutes right before the performance time, so they cancelled it)

our R.A. got mad at me and ryan when he found out rachel, josie, bridgit and jill were visiting our room all the time, despite the fact that no one said anything about co-ed visitation being against the rules

MEXICO IN 2 DAYS!!!! YES!!!!!

p.s. if you want me to send you a postcard, leave me a comment w/ your address, or IM me.....

4th of July weekend kicked ass! (mostly) hi-lights:

Saturday: Work 2-6, Manhunt @ Bluemont 9-11

Sunday: Stopped by Kay/Mel/Sarah/Barbara's garage sale, said bye to Melanie
Then work 10-4, then movie night @ Rachel's, we watched scenes from "Clue" and "Blast!", all of "Emperor's New Groove", parts of "Lost World" on Fox(I think), and then the end of "Shanghi Noon."

Monday: Barcroft Neighborhood Fourth of July Parade, played w/ marching band, sang National Anthem w/ my fam., good food, hung out w/ Ashby, then saw/heard a "TEEN ROCK BAND" which comprised a couple kids from W-L who i recognized, Salem? and possibly Kyle?, not entirely sure, but they were ok, had some technical difficulties at first, but after that they were alright. they had a whole crowd of cheering underclassmen, again a couple of whom i recognized. hilarious.
Then it was frisbee @ Bluemont for hour and a half, then Phyllis' for bbq and fireworks(hehe, illegal). We also had this freakin' awesome water fight that started off as waterballoons-every man for him/herself, and ended up being fight w/ hoses and buckets, guys vs. girls. of course there were three guys (me, david, king) versus 12 girls (can't name them all) so we got soaked first. but eventually i think everyone was pretty much drenched, after which we ate cake, had fun w/ sparklers, and played freeze tag.

good times....

it has been an insane...... 36ish hours, the period of which i did not go home once...

i know that doesn't sound like much of an achievement, but when 12 of it is spent @ work, and 14 of it is spent @ Relay for Life...i'd say that counts for something.

fun times though, highlights of the Relay were...

1) nearly winning the Limbo contest; getting 4th and beating a whole bunch of 7 year olds who were 3 feet shorter than me...woot for being...flexible...

2) loud, angry, hilarious game of Ultimate, half of which involved every single member of one team screaming at the top of their lungs at the other...

3) Karioke (sp?)...Amber and Claire, Jonathan + people, PETER GURNEY!!! (peter sang along to "Pour Some Sugar on Me...somebody give the boy a medal)

4) Scrabble...why does Lane take forever!?!?!?! and then i couldn't make venti...cause someone took my i.

5) walking the track talking w/ allison, listening to mirmy talk, talking w/ lexi, listening to mirmy talk, throwing a football w/ Mckensie(sp???), LISTENING TO MIRMY TALK SOME MORE!! (just kidding miriam, although it definitely made it easier to fall asleep...) :oD

6) watching the insane cross country team dominate everyone else by running 6, 9, 14!!! miles at a time, no stopping. peter gurney went around the track something like 200 times altogether (but not all at once, thank god...)

7) just having a good time w/ awesome people, freshman, sophmores, juniors alike...

looking forward to maybe doing it again next year! peace out now...
